The Life Edit #04: Refreshed Routine

We’re rounding out the Home Edit, and in my opinion, this is where things start to get more fun.

That’s not to say cleaning your home or sprucing up your finances can’t be fun…but let’s not try too hard here. Those spaces tend to require more muscle, discipline, and brain power than what we’re stepping into next.

So take a breath.
Grab a mug of coffee.
And let yourself settle in and actually dream a little.

Space #04: Clean Up Your Routines

As promised, this one gets lighter!

The only real heavy lifting here is letting go of routines that simply aren’t working.

For example, if you’re not a morning person, but you keep forcing yourself into a 5 am “miracle morning,” only to end up grouchy, resentful, and dependent on three cups of coffee before 8 am… maybe it’s time to release your assumptions about what an ideal morning routine is supposed to look like.

The truth? You can have a really great morning routine and let yourself sleep an extra hour.

That's the thing about routines. We hold many preconceived ideas based on “guru” culture. Somewhere along the way, those ideas became the way. But the only way a routine works is if you actually want to engage with it.

I’m not talking about that January 1st motivation that hits hard and disappears by January 4th. I’m inviting you to refresh what you already have by asking some honest questions:

  • Is this routine actually working for me?
  • Do I enjoy it? Or just tolerate it?
  • What feels forced?
  • What feels supportive?
  • How could this be even more enjoyable or sustainable?

Perhaps you could add something new, such as stretching instead of intense workouts during a busy season.

Or perhaps you discard something entirely so you have more space to simply be. Maybe you “break up” with your morning routine and create a mid-morning rhythm instead.

That’s the purpose of this clean-up: to take an intimate look at how you’re living and consciously decide how you want to move forward.

Some common routines to evaluate:

  • Your wellness routine (movement, eating, hydration, rest)
  • Your cleaning routine
  • Your morning routine
  • Your evening routine
  • Your work routine

Think about the flow of your life. Notice what repeats. Evaluate what supports you and what drains you. If something needs a facelift, this is the moment to give yourself permission to adjust it.

Inside the Nourished Planner, one of the most helpful sections for this process is where you assess what’s serving you and what isn’t based on your strengths and passions. The following pages invite you to name the things you actually love, such as:

  • Foods
  • Workouts
  • Cleaning rhythms
  • Health habits
  • Activities
  • Hobbies
  • Relationships

This is the perfect place to add what you want more of and then rebuild your routines from that foundation.

Here’s what I know:

We all live by routines, whether we’re aware of them or not. And when we’re unaware of how we spend our days, we miss opportunities to move toward what we truly want — toward a life well-lived.

I don’t want you to miss your days simply because you’re unaware of the minutes you’re spending. Living means owning those minutes and choosing how you’ll fill them.

You already have a routine. The question is, is it helping you?

Let this process be fun.
Get dreamy.
But keep it practical.

For example, don’t add “morning walks on the beach” if you live in the middle of the Midwest. If you’re craving adventure, look around you. Chances are, you already have something nearby that can help you create the feeling you’re seeking.

We don’t give enough credit to the truth that most of us already have what we need. We’re just unaware of it. You can learn more about that concept here.

Remember, this isn’t a once-and-done process. Routines should shift with the seasons of your life. That’s why inside the Nourished Planner you’ll find a seasonal spread designed to help you re-evaluate and adjust, so you can experience the greatest benefit year-round.

If you don’t have a planner yet… this is just one more reason to grab one.
